COTTAM'S PENCIL BRUSHES
Building brushes, one tuft at a time
Our Round Pencil Brushes are customisable and available as single products or built as part of a larger brush.

Round Pencil Brushes
Cottam pencil brushes are used within many sectors including oil and gas, engineering, and chemical processing. The pencil brush, also known as a brush cluster, is typically manufactured in one of three ways (bonded, soldered, or swaged) which secures the filament/ wires into the brush ferrule. From here the pencil brushes are used independently or filled into a brush core. They are commonly used for cleaning and maintaining pipelines, as well as surface preparation prior to inspection or repairs.
Depending on your requirements and brush application, we can manufacture using various synthetic filament / wire materials and sizes.
Features & Benefits
STRENGTH & SECURITY
Pencil brushes form extremely strong brush tufts – much stronger than punch filled brushes! Their greater fill capacity (fuller tuft) means a longer lasting brush with better cleaning capabilities.
TAILORED DESIGN
Our pencil brushes have great scope for customisation. Diameter, length, and flare can all be considered, as well as the choice of synthetic or wire (ferrous, non-ferrous or plated) to make a brush that’s right for the task
BONDED PENCIL BRUSHES
Glues and adhesives have advanced significantly over the years and offer a secure hold to both synthetic filament and wire in a brush ferrule or cap. In addition, bonding can be used to hold the pencil brushes to the brush core.
SWAGED PENCIL BRUSHES
Swaging relies upon the deformation of the brush ferrule / cap to hold the fill in place – an extremely neat & strong way to form pencil brushes that doesn’t require any other material. The materials used to fill (synthetic, wires – both ferrous and non-ferrous – and specialised platings such as zinc) seem endless with this technology!
SOLDERED PENCIL BRUSHES
Soldered pencil brushes require tinned wire to maximise the bond. For many years now this has been a speciality here at Cottam – our oil & gas customers rely upon this technology for Pipeline Inspection Brushes where conductivity is so important.
