COTTAM'S SPREADER ROLLER
Say Goodbye to Creases
with Cottam's
Spreader Rollers
Enhance the quality and efficiency of your web processing with Cottam’s spreader rollers. Designed to eliminate creasing on materials like film, tissue, paper, textiles, and non-wovens.

The Spreader Roller
Creased material, line stoppages, and manual interventions are common issues on production lines, often caused by underperforming rollers.
Cottam’s Spreader Roller offers a proven solution. Engineered with thousands of fine bristles, it gently stretches material from edge to edge to eliminate creases and ensure consistent spreading, resulting in smoother operation and fewer disruptions. Driven by the web itself, the roller automatically adjusts to match your line speed, integrating seamlessly with existing machinery.
Features & Benefits
FOR MULTIPLE INDUSTRIES & PURPOSES
A special brush for web producing and processing companies (i.e. plastic film & tissue manufacturing and transfer printing). Works for film, tissue, paper, textiles and non-wovens to eliminate creases and ensure even edge-to-edge spreading.
DESIGNED FOR EASY INSTALLATION
Our spreader rollers are easy to maintain, with replaceable segments for quick repairs, and can be retrofitted to existing machines for hassle-free upgrades, providing 1:1 replacements for conventional path rollers, bow rollers, banana rollers, etc.
REMOVAL OF ELECTROSTATIC
Optionally equipped with conductive bristles, the web spreader roller reduces static electricity to a level where the material doesn’t stick anymore, and more importantly, makes it safe for the human body. This upgrade is recommended for environments that have high levels of electrostatic.
VARIATIONS AVAILABLE
Suitable for various web widths (200mm – 5m), thicknesses (8um to 2000um) and speeds (up to 1200m/min). A range of bearings (i.e. static or self-adjusting) and bristles (i.e. standard, conductive, FDA certified) are also available upon request.
DRIVEN BY THE WEB ITSELF
Driven by the web itself, the spreader roller automatically adapts to the speed of the moving material.

F&Q's
What industries are spreader rollers most commonly used in?
Cottam’s spreader rollers are used across a wide range of industries that process films and other web materials. Common applications include FMCG packaging lines, where they’re fitted to machines that open bags, and the printing industry, where they help ensure materials lie flat for accurate transfer printing. They’re also used by film, paper, textiles, non woven and tissue manufacturers to improve handling, reduce creasing and improve overall quality.
Our rollers can be adapted to suit specific applications or supplied as a direct replacement for existing rollers making them a versatile upgrade for any web-handling operation.
What machines do spreader rollers work on?
They’re designed as drop-in replacements for most setups and can be custom engineered to fit packaging lines and automated filling machines and are also commonly used in plastic film manufacturing, paper mills and tissue manufacturing.
How do I know what type of bristle and sized spreader roller I will need?
Just tell us about your machine setup and the material you’re running. Our design team will recommend the best bristle density, length, and roller size for your application.
How long do spreader rollers take to manufacture?
Lead times vary based on customisation, but our team can advise you on timelines upon your initial enquiry.
