Phew! It’s finally Spring, which hopefully means some warmer weather’s on the way (fingers crossed!)
In this Spring newsletter the big news is our new MD, who some of you may recognise. We’ve also got info on the new products we’ve launched and a video about our rapid lock system that make our brooms so user friendly.
Alan Crook named as the new Cottam Brush MD
Starting on 1st March, for the first time in our 164 year history, Cottam Brush has welcomed a new Managing Director outside of the Cottam family!
Alan Crook, who has been with Cottam for 21 years and a director for 16 years, is taking over the role from Ben Cottam, who will be spending more time supporting the Cottam Investments group.
Alan said “I am honoured to be the first person outside of the Cottam family to take on the role of MD at Cottam. I’ve been with the business since 2001 and I have a lot of experience supporting Ben in managing the business. I’m really excited about the future of Cottam.”
We collaborated with Business & IP Centre (BIPC) North East to create a video which featured the support they gave us when we developed our innovative rapid lock system. Our broom range is quick and easy to assemble thanks in part to the work they did identifying a lapsed patent on a similar product. Check out the video HERE.
Cottam Celebrates Chinese New Year
Cottam colleagues Nancy Li (General Manager) and Ada Lin (Sourcing Manager) celebrated the ‘Year of the Tiger’ in February – we think you’ll agree their photos look amazing! We wish them a happy, healthy and prosperous year.

Our new rotary trimmer is in the final stages of testing over in Germany, before being shipped to us in Hebburn in just a few weeks. The machine will allow us to precisely trim wire, ensuring a high-quality product with shorter lead times for our custom brush customers.
Net Zero Climate Pledge
We are continuing our work towards halving our emissions by 2030 and recently signed the Net Zero climate pledge. We are committed to being net zero by 2050 and having a positive impact on the environment.
At the start of 2022 Cottam HQ staff moved to a 4 day working week, which means our factory is now closed for 1 day a week. Along with encouraging staff to commute by bike or electric car, and simple steps like increased recycling and hybrid working, we’re taking small steps toward our goals.
