CASE STUDY: Weir & Effluent Launder Channel Cleaning System – Fin Maintenance

FIN offers a single source of industrial maintenance and engineering services to clients throughout the water & wastewater, manufacturing, petrochemical, food & drink and pharma sectors.
Understanding their needs and challenges
In 2023 FIN approached Cottam to supply a unique weir brush system for a project they were working on after coming across us online whilst searching for weir brushes. The current system needed replacing as the effluent launder channel required maintenance, so this was a complete removal and new replacement system install for FIN. What made this system unique to anything we had manufactured before was its size, our ‘standard’ spring loaded brushes would have been too wide to fit within this particular weir.

- Obtain the specific measurements of the weir, this is the smallest weir system to date for Cottam, so it was important to liaise with the customer to get it right
Our Process
After the initial introductory call, we sent FIN our site survey which has been designed inhouse to ensure we receive all the information we need from the get-go, including the specific measurements of the weir (width and bridge height) along with photos. Once we had obtained this information, we liaised with our in-house consultant to understand how many brushes and brackets were required for the project. It was at this point we could quote for the project as well as provide timelines and expected delivery dates.
On receipt of the Purchase Order, we got to work manufacturing the entire weir system including brackets and brushes. This is all done in house at Cottam giving our customers full control over their system. The system was then shipped to the client and due to its simplistic design, the clients on site engineers were able to fit themselves.
